Weekly Reflection #1:
During my first week of Senior Project, I learned a lot of crucial information that has expanded my knowledge in the PT field. Although I haven’t been able to perform any of the stretches or worked the machinery, I have experienced a lot while shadowing Diane and her assistant, as well as getting to know the patients around the office. The patients are always open to talking about their injuries and the recovery process they’ve gone through, as well as answer my questions and ask question about my future. These patients are always involved, and strive to get better everyday, something I want to help them achieve. So far I have loved what I have been doing in the office. My role is to shadow, but shadowing has allowed me to take a step back and learn everything before I actually get that experience in college. When I am not shadowing, I am either studying the human body, or scribbling down notes about PT, which are both something I do not mind doing, since I enjoy the field so much. Diane said that I will be having at least 2 quizzes on both the shoulder and the knee, which is what I put most of my time in the afternoons studying for. Stepping into this week, I was expecting exactly what happened since I had talked to many people before who were previously patients of Diane’s. I’m glad that I get to shadow Diane, since she always has patients in the office, and she can show me and teach me the lifestyle of being a full time PT.
From this week’s activities, I get to step away with a lot of crucial information as well as experience in a PT office to make me more comfortable around the patients as well as the people working at the office. So far I have had many enjoyable conversations with people around the community, as well as sitting in on conversations with the “gossip of New Hampshire”. What I did this week will help me achieve my goals because I have already started to achieve a lot of my goals. I have gotten the experience I needed with Diane, as well as the experience with the people in the community. I have gained a lot of knowledge in the field, but knowing that I have two and a half weeks left, I can gain a lot more knowledge for my future study. Lastly, I have shadowed a specialist in the field, and Diane has taught me and showed me many different techniques and exercises that will help me gain more knowledge. I look forward to this next week, and to the last 2 and a half weeks of Senior Project.
