Day 17:
Today I did not go into the office because I finished up my hours in there, but I also needed to take time to go over both my final paper and my presentation. I took around an hour and a half to make finishing touches to both of my assignments, and I am happy with my final product. I am looking forward to seeing my peers presentations tomorrow, as well as see what they did during their senior projects. I am also looking forward to presenting my slideshow and notes to faculty, staff, and students around the community. Although I am happy that senior project is almost over, I am also a bit sad that I won't be able to work with the patients again. During my 3 and a half weeks in the office, I built a strong bond with many people around the Andover community, and always looked forward to seeing them come in every other day. In the end, I am thankful I was fortunate enough to work with Diane and Hannah, and am excited to move forward in my career with the experience I got from Senior Project.

Day 16:
Today was a very entertaining day in the office since I was able to finally go in the afternoon and work with my fellow students. There were many more laughs and jokes thrown around in the office. This afternoon definitely had a different energy than the morning sessions, and I was a bit more comfortable since I was around people I knew. I was able to stretch some of my students out, as well as lead them threw circuits that pushed them to their limits. Although these circuits were physically tough for these patients, they pushed through and helped themselves on the road to recovery. The students were also easier to work with because their bodies are more capable of taking on more. I was very excited to wrap up my time in the office, and looking forward to finishing my presentation as well as present it on Wednesday to the community.

Weekly Reflection #3:
As my third and final full week of Senior Project concluded, I reflected on my time in the office, and how much I was going to miss the learning experience as well as the patients coming in and out everyday. I didn’t realize I would create these “mini” bonds/friendships with these patients, and also did not realize how helpful they were when telling me about their stories and their injuries. During this last full week, I continued to take down notes of new exercises and stretches I was learning as well as new patients and their full evaluations. I also had my final quiz of Senior Project on Thursday, and I got another 100%. This quiz was on the ligaments (anterior cruciate ligament, etc.)  and tendons (popliteus tendon) in the knee, as well as the bones and bone structures in the knee. I also began to work on both my slideshow, gathering materials for my table at Express Fest, and work on my 1,000 word paper that is due on Tuesday. I am excited for Express Fest because I get to finally share my work with the community as well as wrap up my senior year!
This final week really pushed me towards achieving my goals to the fullest as well as allowed me to sit back and continue to be the student I am. I was able to give exercises and stretches to patients as well as stretch out a patients hamstring, something I thought I would not do at the beginning of this project. I continued to shadow Diane and gain as much information as I could from her, writing down everything she told me. I also gained a lot of experience by giving patients exercises as well as stretching out a patient. I am sad that Senior Project went by so quickly, but very thankful for Diane allowing me to come into the office and learn about the PT field. I will continue to push during these last two days and take the information I learned during these past 3 and a half weeks and apply it when I am studying similar subjects in college!

Day 15:
Today was also just a regular Friday morning with the usual patients in. It did seem slow at first, but more patients started to flow in and out. There were no new patients today, so I did not have to observe any new patient evaluations. I was able to lead one patient through a circuit to strengthen their quads and hamstring. The circuit consisted of three exercises: wall sits, mini squats with a ball squeeze, and bosu squats, all for 30 seconds each. The patient did this 3 times, and seemed to be pretty tired afterwards, but it was good since they needed to strengthen their legs back up again. On Monday, I am looking forward to working with the students and helping them recover from their injuries. I am also looking forward to wrapping up Senior Project and presenting my slideshow to the community next Wednesday!

Day 14:
Today started out by greeting the usual patients that are in on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. I sat down and talked with the patients while they were recovering from their injuries. As the day went on, I continued to take notes as well as observe Diane and her work. There were no new evaluations today, but I was able to meet some of Diane's patients that I had never met before. Although today was not slow with the constant flow of patients, it always seemed as if there was a patch of free time, allowing me to review my notes and such. I also took the knee quiz today, and got an 100%. I studied for quite a long time in preparation for the quiz, and it sure did pay off. That was also my final quiz, so it was nice to end on a higher note. I am looking forward to my last three days in the office, and excited for next week when I get to work with the students.

Day 13:
The office was closed, so today was an off day. Due to the fact that I have a quiz tomorrow, I studied for an hour this morning. The quiz is on the anterior and posterior views of the knee, including all of the anatomy. Some of the anatomy includes the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, the medial and lateral condyles, the medial and lateral meniscus, etc. Although this quiz will be harder than my previous one, I feel that I can still get above a 95% on this one. Other than the quiz, tomorrow will be a normal day of shadowing and observing. I am looking forward to getting back into the office for my last two morning sessions, since next week will be in the afternoon!

Day 12:
Today started out just like the rest of them. There were a lot of the regular patients in the office, all still trying to get back to full strength. There was a new patient though, who had an initial evaluation for a foot injury, so I was able to watch that evaluation and take notes. It seems as if a lot of new patients have been coming to the office lately, which is nice for me since I get to see new injuries and the recovery process these patients go through in order to regain strength. Tomorrow is a day in which I do not have to go in, so I will study for my quiz which I have on Thursday. I am looking forward to wrapping up Senior Project, and have already started to put my slideshow together. My slideshow will feature pictures, as well as different injuries I saw and the exercises and treatment needed on those different regions. I look forward to Thursday and am excited to take my quiz!

Day 11:
Today I was greeted by the usual patients in at around 8:30 this morning. I was not able to see these people since last Thursday, so I talked about my weekend to them, as well as them sharing their events that happened over the weekend. As the day continued on, I was able to catch up on notes as well as study for my quiz, which will happen in the upcoming days. I was also able to shadow an initial check up for a new patient which was pretty exciting, and was told step by step what to do and what to check for. One patient also brought in a huge box of donuts, which was very thoughtful since the patient had been away for a while, and I was able to eat some of those. As we approach the closing stages of Senior Project, I am most excited to present my experience at Express Fest, and share with the community my project along with pictures and write ups of what I did everyday. I am looking forward to tomorrow as well, and glad to see the usual patients to catch up with them.

Weekly Reflection #2:
During my second week of senior project, I continued to learn more information in the field as well as apply that knowledge by telling a patient what stretches and exercises they needed to do during their appointments. At this point, whenever a patient that has been in the office more than once has an appointment and sits down to talk to Diane, I know their injury and what has been bothering them, as well as different exercises and recovery techniques to give them. Although I am not allowed to perform any of the stretches or work any of the machinery, the shadowing aspect has allowed me to take down lots of notes, as I usually write at least a page of notes per day. These notes consist of new exercises and new injuries, as well as adding more descriptions and changes to many of the patient’s injuries in the past. During this upcoming week, I will be having a quiz on the anatomy of the knee, which I have been studying for during my free time in the office as well as at night and during my days off. I feel that I should get another 100% on this quiz like the last one, since I have payed a lot of attention to it, as well as study for it.
This weeks time in the office will allow me to step away with a lot more information than the first week, since I am becoming a little more involved in the office. Although Diane only limits me to one patient, I am still getting that experience and knowledge I need for my future studies in the field. I am also learning many conversational skills, since there is a lot of down time when the patients are in the office, which allows me to strike up a conversation with some of the patients that come in a lot. Usually I sit back and listen, but other times I will jump in and try to get involved in the conversation. I continue to achieve my goals everyday, since I am learning a lot, as well as watching Diane treat her patients. I am looking forward to the last week and a half, and am going to get as much information as I can to further my knowledge in this field!

Day 10:
Since I was not in the office today, I studied for my knee quiz on Monday in the car on my way to Syracuse. I looked over all of the terms once more before writing them all down in my notebook. I was also able to label the whole entire knee except for 2-3 terms. I will continue to study the whole knee, specifically those three terms this weekend on my way back from Syracuse. As I concluded this week, I realized that I only have a week and a half more of this project. I have already learned so much from Diane, but I am definitely going to try and get the most out of my time here, and will learn more over the ensuing week. I am looking forward to my last full week in the office, as well as seeing all of the patients that I have been working with.

Day 9:
Today started out the same way the other days started out, which was a lot of catching up with the "usual" patients as well as meeting the new patients. I was able to work with the same patient I always get to work with, as well as listen in on Diane leading other patients through exercises. I was able to study for my knee quiz, so I reviewed all of the terms both during my time in the office as well as an hour at home. I will not be going to the office tomorrow since I am leaving for Syracuse to see my sister graduate, so I will not be in the office until Monday. This gives me plenty of time to both study for my quiz on Monday as well as review the other material I have been learning. Diane and I also talked about me coming in for an afternoon session sometime next week, since there are a lot more students in the office, and it is a completely different environment. I am looking forward to next week, and am hoping to get in an afternoon session to help my fellow classmates recover from their injuries.

Day 8:
Since the office was not open today, I split up my study hours in the morning and at night. In the morning, I studied the knee by writing down all of the terms into a notebook, since writing down terms makes you memorize them easier. I did this a couple times, and then continued on with my day. And just now for 45 minutes, I started to transfer the terms onto the paper with labels, and was able to label most of the terms. As I hit the midpoint of my second week, it appears to me that I am on track to complete the total of 50 hours. During these first 30 hours, I have learned a lot more than what I knew before. Diane has taught me many different stretches, as well as different routines for her patients to go through in order to recover fully from their injury. As I start my second half of the week, I look forward to catching up with most of the patients, and continue to help them get better.

Day 7:
Today was a pretty slow day, since one patient ended up cancelling their appointment. Since the patient cancelled, I was able to study for my knee quiz coming up as well as flip through a book about different exercises and stretches for the many different injuries and parts of the body. I learned why these stretches and exercises were so crucial that Diane was giving the patients, allowing for faster recovery time and strengthening that muscle area. At about 10 a.m., I was able to make a visit to my advisory, and returned to a busy office at around 10:30. I saw a lot of the same people I have been seeing for the past week, and only saw one new patient who I knew from the past. I did a lot of note taking today, as well as paying attention to different techniques and stretches that Diane gives to the patient. I am looking forward to Thursday, and to catch up with the patients I know, as well as meet new patients.

Day 6:
Today was a pretty exciting day since I was actually able to stretch out a patient. I stretched out their hamstrings, and lead them through exercises to help get them back to full extension for their knee. Other than that, I took down a lot of notes today on a bunch of different exercises as well as the Sciatic Nerve, which is the largest nerve in the body. I also had my shoulder quiz today and got a 100%! It was just on the basic anatomy of the shoulder, such as the different muscles as well as the bones in the shoulder region. I will be having a quiz on the knee pretty soon, and will continue to study this week for around an hour every night just to make sure I know everything. I am looking forward to the rest of this week, and am excited to see what comes next.

Weekly Reflection #1:
During my first week of Senior Project, I learned a lot of crucial information that has expanded my knowledge in the PT field. Although I haven’t been able to perform any of the stretches or worked the machinery, I have experienced a lot while shadowing Diane and her assistant, as well as getting to know the patients around the office. The patients are always open to talking about their injuries and the recovery process they’ve gone through, as well as answer my questions and ask question about my future. These patients are always involved, and strive to get better everyday, something I want to help them achieve. So far I have loved what I have been doing in the office. My role is to shadow, but shadowing has allowed me to take a step back and learn everything before I actually get that experience in college. When I am not shadowing, I am either studying the human body, or scribbling down notes about PT, which are both something I do not mind doing, since I enjoy the field so much. Diane said that I will be having at least 2 quizzes on both the shoulder and the knee, which is what I put most of my time in the afternoons studying for. Stepping into this week, I was expecting exactly what happened since I had talked to many people before who were previously patients of Diane’s. I’m glad that I get to shadow Diane, since she always has patients in the office, and she can show me and teach me the lifestyle of being a full time PT.
From this week’s activities, I get to step away with a lot of crucial information as well as experience in a PT office to make me more comfortable around the patients as well as the people working at the office. So far I have had many enjoyable conversations with people around the community, as well as sitting in on conversations with the “gossip of New Hampshire”. What I did this week will help me achieve my goals because I have already started to achieve a lot of my goals. I have gotten the experience I needed with Diane, as well as the experience with the people in the community. I have gained a lot of knowledge in the field, but knowing that I have two and a half weeks left, I can gain a lot more knowledge for my future study. Lastly, I have shadowed a specialist in the field, and Diane has taught me and showed me many different techniques and exercises that will help me gain more knowledge. I look forward to this next week, and to the last 2 and a half weeks of Senior Project.

Day 5:
Today was a pretty busy day, and there were a lot of people coming in and out of the office. I started off the day by moving ultrasound gel into smaller squeeze bottles, which ended up being a tough task due to the size of the squeeze bottle tops. As I finished up, Diane and her new patients talked me through their stories, and the recovery process. As patients continued to shuffle in and out, I took notes down in my notebook, and studied the shoulder. I have a quiz on the shoulder on Monday, and I try to find time at night to look over the sheets in order to stick the terms in my head. Today was the last day of my first week on senior project, and I've enjoyed every second of it. I look forward to next week and seeing people from around the community, as well as catching up with the all of the patients from last week.

During today's session, I  was able to catch up with the many new people I met on Monday, and explain my project in more depth. One of my favorite patients, who I talked to today, has been through a pretty rough journey, but is very understandable and hard working, striving to continue to gain his strength back. A new patient I met today also had a pretty rough couple of months, since she has had major knee and shoulder problems due to an incident, and although she should not be in pain, she has continued to feel pain in her knee. She is also very hardworking, which is helpful for Diane since she knows that her patient will do the work needed to get back to full strength. I also continued to study for my shoulder quiz coming up on Monday, making sure I knew everything in the shoulder and where it is located. As I close this week, I am hoping to learn as much as I can and begin to learn different injury recovery exercises and hopefully get to the point where I can tell a patient what they need to do just off the top of my head. I have learned a lot of crucial information this first week, and continue to learn more as I look forward to next week.

Today was a pretty slow day, since the office was not open today. I mostly took my time to study the shoulder, and the different muscles and bones that help support the shoulder. I will be having a quiz on the anatomy of the shoulder pretty soon, which is why I took so much time to prepare for it, allowing me to be completely ready when the time of the quiz comes. I look forward to writing my weekly reflection and look back on what I learned this week. I have already learned a lot in the first two days, meaning I will continue to receive crucial information that will give me a head start going into college. I have also had some pretty meaningful conversations with many of the patients, talking about my future as well as the present. As I continue to learn, I am most looking forward to having more conversations with people around the community, allowing me to become for comfortable with patients and gaining more conversational skills, which is a very important skill to have as a physical therapist.
